Former President Donald Trump, besieged by four impeachments, has widened his lead over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to 47 percentage points in the race for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, according to an Emerson College Polling survey released this Wednesday.

The poll also found that Trump and President Joe Biden each have the support of 45% of voters, a result similar to the YouGov/Yahoo News poll, also released today, which gives each of them the 44% support.

The Emerson College Polling survey was conducted from September 17 to 18 among 1,125 registered voters and found that 59% of Republican voters favor Trump (2017-2021), which represents an increase of nine points since last month’s survey.

DeSantis, the closest of Trump’s rivals, appears with support from 12% of respondents, unchanged from the previous month, and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy lost two points to 7% of support.

A CNN television poll in early September showed Trump with more than 30 points of lead over DeSantis among Republican voters.

“The Trump voter remains resilient. Despite a dip in August after (the first Republican debate, which Trump did not attend), his lead has grown and his position has improved compared to before the debate,” said Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling.

This poll indicates that for 40% of potential voters the most important issue is the economic situationwhile 13% say their biggest concern is threats to democracy, 12% are concerned about the cost of health care, and 10% are concerned about immigration.
