The native competitor in open water Tsanko Tsankov is leaving for the Hawaiian Islands, where he will participate in another series of the most difficult swimming marathons in the world – Ocean 7. The Bulgarian will attack the distance from the island of Molokai to Honolulu with a length of about 50 kilometers in the Pacific Ocean. This will take place in the period 08-10 November, with nearly 17 hours of non-stop swimming in the dangerous waters of the ocean expected. Tsankov, who twice traveled more than 100 kilometers in the Danube River within 13 days, leaves with optimism for his upcoming participation in the USA.
“I’m not in top shape, but I feel good. I’m still not fully recovered from September 19th and the 120 kilometers in the Danube, but I’ve been pushing the preparations and I’m leaving for Hawaii in good spirits. I will have two weeks there to get used to the environment and acclimatize. The last few days I have been training in our Black Sea in the region of Burgas and Tsarevo and I expect to fulfill my goal, namely, to successfully complete Bulgaria’s longest marathon in terms of kilometers from Ocean 7 in the Hawaiian archipelago. I will take additional measures against sharks and predatory fish according to the rules. I am not worried, but there are definitely dangers and one must be prepared for them. After all, I swim in their environment and am a guest in the water. I am looking forward to the marathon. I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for the huge support to me and my team. This is exactly what motivated me to succeed in Hawaii and wave the Bulgarian flag after the final,” said Tsanko Tsankov.
The Bulgarian swimmer and his manager Nikolay Iliev will be in Chicago for a few days at the invitation of our compatriots. Documentaries from Tsankov’s swims in California, New Zealand and the Danube will be shown there. Our community there will have the opportunity to meet our famous swimmer, which is organized by the Olympic Club – Chicago.
