Awareness day is observed. Tsunami is a Japanese word. It means ‘harbor tide’. Also known as ‘Azhipperalai’. A tsunami occurs when an earthquake occurs in the ocean. Tsunami has occurred 58 times in 100 years in the world. 2.60 lakh people died in this. In 2004, 2.27 lakh people died in the tsunami that hit countries including India.
In the end, a resolution was passed in the United Nations to observe the 5th of November every year as World Tsunami Awareness Day. Accordingly, Tsunami Awareness Day is observed on 5th November every year.
