Thomas Müller no longer has a guarantee of use. Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel still encourages the striker – and takes a decision on his own initiative.

Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel has praised Thomas Müller’s handling of his difficult role as a part-time worker. “I can only give Thomas the highest compliment, how he trains, the energy he brings to the team,” said Tuchel before the home game in the Bundesliga on Saturday (3:30 p.m./Sky) against SV Darmstadt 98. That was “ “Sensationally good and absolutely exemplary”. Müller is a “real team player at an extremely high level”.
This season, Müller mostly only comes into the game from the substitutes’ bench; he is still waiting for his first goal of the season. The 34-year-old attacker wasn’t even substituted on Tuesday in the 3-1 win in the Champions League group stage against Galatasaray Istanbul, even though Tuchel had actually planned it.

“Now it’s 3-1, now Thomas can play, that felt strange to me,” Tuchel gave insight into his thoughts on the premier class evening. The Munich coach said at the press conference that he didn’t substitute Müller in Turkey, “I take it on myself.”
At the same time, Tuchel admitted that over the course of a season it becomes increasingly difficult to moderate limited playing times for the national player. This was “something completely normal,” said the 50-year-old. “Thomas is used to playing, his strength is developing a rhythm. He will never like and should never like sitting on the bench. This is easier to accept a few times than several times.”
Tuchel referred to the strong competition on the offensive such as Harry Kane and Kingsley Coman. At the same time, he also encouraged Müller. “I’m sure we need him, he remains an important player,” assured the Bayern coach. “I’m sure the opportunity will come when he will prove that for us this season.” Already against Darmstadt?
