Tumors, Cappellacci (Fi): ’10 million a year for symbolic but important fights’

“Since the first days in which I took office in the Social Affairs Commission of the Chamber, I immediately dealt with the topic of oncology. In particular, I wanted to verify what was the state of the art of the National Oncological Plan which discounted some delays with respect to the Oncology Plan approved at European level and which required, in order to have a definitive start, a financial envelope. This financial envelope has arrived: 10 million euros a year for the next 2 years. Perhaps symbolic, but important resources and in any case an interesting premise”. Thus told time.news Salute Ugo Cappellacci, president of the Chamber’s Social Affairs Commission, on the sidelines of a press conference on cholangiocarcinoma which was held today in the Chamber.

The fight against cancer “is a commitment of all politics, of the Government, of Parliament and of the Commission that I have the honor of presiding over – underlines the Forza Italia parliamentarian – The theme of oncology has no political color, it is transversal to all contexts, to all environments and to all families, so there is a natural sensitivity to this issue”.

And with regard to the amendment approved by the Budget Commission of the Chamber, which provides for the allocation of 600 thousand euros for the three-year period 2023-2025 to guarantee patients with cholangiocarcinoma access to genomic tests, better known as Next-Generation Sequencing (Ngs) test, Cappellacci has no doubts: “In the last legislature a fund was created for Next-Generation Sequencing tests which, however, the Ministry of Health had linked to tests for only metastatic non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer”. Now, “thanks to this amendment, we are extending the possibility of using the tests also for other tumors, including rarer and more aggressive ones such as cholangiocarcinoma. By doing so, we have the possibility of acting in a more targeted way on diagnostics”.
