The Kurdistan Regional Government has indicated that one of the attacks has been directed against a vehicle in the province of Erbil, in which an official and two combatants have died, according to the Kurdish news agency Rudaw. A drone later attacked a home in southern Iraqi Kurdistan, killing four PKK members, two men and two women. Witnesses consulted by the news agency assured that there were still drones flying over the border.

Türkiye announced in mid-April 2022 the start of a new offensive against the PKK in Iraqi Kurdistan, in northern Iraq, which was described by Baghdad as a “threat to national security” as the operations were not being coordinated. The Turkish Army has also frequently carried out military operations against the PKK and its allies in northern Syria -mainly the Syrian Kurdish militia People’s Protection Units (YPG)- since the ceasefire between the government and the armed group was broken in July 2015.
