A new, family-friendly concert experience is being spearheaded by Turning Point USA, born from years of critique surrounding mainstream halftime performances and a desire to offer alternative entertainment options. The “All-American Halftime Show,” announced by a spokesperson for the organization, aims to provide “great music for people that love great music” without the concerns some parents have regarding contemporary pop culture.
The idea for the show, according to Turning Point USA’s spokesperson, Andrew Kolvet, originated with a 2014 social media post from the organization’s founder, Charlie Kirk, criticizing halftime show productions. Kolvet explained that Kirk consistently voiced his opinions on these performances over the years, often sparking online discussion. As debate intensified around recent pop culture events, Turning Point USA saw an opportunity to create a different kind of spectacle.
A Response to Shifting Cultural Values
“There are very few organizations positioned to step into this space,” Kolvet stated, emphasizing Turning Point USA’s experience in producing large-scale events and cultural programming. What began as informal commentary and media speculation quickly evolved into a formal project, particularly after news outlets inquired about the possibility of the group staging its own halftime show. The resulting event is now larger in scope than initially anticipated.
The concert lineup features prominent country artists including Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett. Kolvet lauded their participation, describing it as “brave,” and acknowledged that some performers declined due to potential backlash.
Immersive Production and a Focused Message
The production is designed to be “immersive” and “high octane,” with a focus on close-up staging to create a more intimate experience for the audience. Artists will incorporate their faith and popular songs into their performances. Kolvet underscored the show’s core message: “There’s a place for them,” referring to audiences who feel alienated by mainstream entertainment.
The event is specifically targeted toward families who desire content they feel comfortable watching together. “They still want excellent music and performances,” Kolvet said, “but increasingly feel out of touch with what they’re seeing out of Hollywood and major award shows.”
Beyond Entertainment: Political Influence and Voter Outreach
Turning Point USA’s influence extends beyond the entertainment realm, encompassing political campaigns and voter registration initiatives. The organization is actively working to build a “red wall” in key states like New Hampshire, Nevada, and Arizona, with the goal of hindering Democratic success in national elections. Kolvet highlighted a significant voter registration advantage for Republicans in New Hampshire, attributing it to their grassroots efforts and the state’s unique political climate.
Reflecting on the organization’s broader mission, Kolvet shared a sentiment often expressed by the founder: “We need our own long march back into the institutions to reclaim them.” He also emphasized the importance of courage, recalling Kirk’s belief that it was “the least common of all the virtues.” The organization views its endeavors as part of a larger “cultural battle,” framed as “light versus dark, goodness versus evil.”
Kolvet expressed confidence that Charlie Kirk would be proud of the organization’s growth and impact, particularly the expansion of Club America chapters across multiple states. “I think he would be marveling at the reaction to his death and the revival and the growth across the country,” he said.
Turning Point USA positions the All-American Halftime Show as a celebration of music, faith, and family values, intentionally avoiding what they perceive as political messaging and offering a distinct alternative to traditional halftime events.
