Twenty-nine additional appeals rejected by the Constitutional Council

by time news

Francis Lalanne was eliminated in the first round of the legislative elections. It is one of the 29 appeals rejected on Friday by the Constitutional Council, in addition to the 27 already rejected a week ago, among the 99 registered at the beginning of July. The French singer had collected 2.12% of the votes.

With these 56 rejections, the Constitutional Council completes “the examination of the admissibility of all the appeals before it” after the legislative elections of June 12 and 19. For the remaining 43 appeals, he will “now focus on the judgment of cases calling for a contradictory instruction on the merits”, he explained.

The number of appeals filed this year is significantly lower than the more than 200 registered five years ago. Among the appeals that the Council will now study, there is in particular that of Nupes Caroline Mecary after her defeat in Paris by 658 votes against the Minister responsible for Europe Clément Beaune. Eliminated in the first round in the 4th constituency of Loiret, the former Minister of National Education Jean-Michel Blanquer also filed an appeal.
