Tyler Christopher, US actor known for playing Nikolas Cassadine, one of the most beloved characters on the soap “General Hospital” and for playing the role of Stefan DiMera in another highly successful soap, “Time of Our Lives”, is died on the morning of Tuesday 31 October at his home in San Diego, California, at the age of 50 “due to cardiac arrest”. The announcement of his passing was made by the actor Maurice Benard, who played Sonny Corinthos in the ABC soap opera, with a post on Instagram.
“Tyler,” Bernard wrote, “was a truly talented person who lit up the screen in every scene he played and enjoyed bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting. He was a sweet soul and a wonderful friend to all who knew him. Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment, speaking openly about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol. We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father.” Tyler Christopher was married to the actress Eva Longoria from 2002 to 2004. He subsequently married the journalist Brienne Pedigo: a relationship that lasted from 2008 to 2021, enlivened by the birth of two children, Greysun James (2009) and Boheme (2015).
Born on November 11, 1972 in Joliet, Illinois, Tyler Christopher Baker had linked his fame to the role of Nikolas Cassadine on «General Hospital» from 1996 to 2016; he also played Connor Bishop from 2004 to 2005 in the same soap opera set in the hospital world. His portrayal of Nikolas earned him the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2016, as well as four nominations, including a special fan award “for the irresistible combination” in 2005 which he shared with Natalia Livingston.
«General Hospital» executive producer Frank Valentini wrote in a statement shared on the soap’s official Instagram account: «I am heartbroken by the news of Tyler Christopher’s death. He was kind, an incredible actor, and a dear friend, beloved by our General Hospital family and Nikolas Cassadine fans. On behalf of the entire cast of General Hospital, our deepest condolences go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.”
Tyler Christopher also played Stefan DiMera on “Time of Our Lives” from 2001 to 2019 and received a Daytime Emmy nomination for his performance on the NBC soap. The actor has appeared on TV in episodes of other series such as «Charmed», «Angel», «Jarod the Chameleon», «Special Unit 2», «The Division», «The Twilight Zone», «JAG – Lawyers in defense », «CSI – Crime Scene Investigation», «Into the West», «The Lying Game», «Ice Storm», «Moon Crash», «Beyond the Lights».
