This Saturday, Mafra beat U. Leiria 3-2 at the Leiria Municipal Stadium, in a game from the 24th round of the Sabseg League in which the team coached by Silas was losing 2-0.
Without winning in four games, Mafra started badly in Leiria: they conceded a goal in the 7th minute and another at the end of the first half. But he took advantage of the home team’s lethargy to score three goals in the second half, securing the three points.
U. Leiria scored at the first attempt: Mafra left the right side of the defense open and Vasco Oliveira took advantage of a crooked shot from Jordan van der Gaag to make it 1-0 in the small area, in the 7th minute.
The goal was validated by VAR while there were problems between supporters in the stands. Not even the heavy rain calmed the spirits, which only calmed down with the intervention of the police.
The Leirienses retreated after the goal and Mafra began to dominate and waste opportunities, through Mesaque Djú, in the 15th and 23rd minutes, Diogo Almeida, in the 19th, or Luis Gabriel, in the 35th.
Clearly better, the visitors easily entered Leiria’s last lines, but were unable to materialize the situations created.
Inattentive when attacking, Vasco Botelho da Costa’s team lost many balls, but showed great efficiency up front, as they scored again on one of the few occasions in which they reached the opposite goal.
On the brink of half-time, Paul Ayongo ran down the right and served Lucho Vega, who assisted full-back Pedro Empis to make it 2-0.
Mafra did not give up and returned from the locker room determined to recover. And he did it: in the 52nd minute the attack combined well, the defense stood still and a good shot from Lucas Gabriel made it 2-1; and in the 61st minute, with U. Leiria watching again, Nibe made it 2-2 with great ease.
A minute before, Jordan van der Gaag shot at Mafra’s goal post, in a move that was an exception to Leirienses’ dismal performance.
But Mafra wanted more and reached 3-2. In the 79th minute, in a counterattack, Miguel Falé assisted Miguel Sousa for the winning goal.
