Abu Dhabi: As part of the country’s 51st National Day celebrations, the UAE Central Bank has launched a new 1,000 dirham currency note. The note is made of polymer with innovative designs and security systems. The note will be available at central bank branches and ATMs in the first half of 2023.

The face of the note released in connection with the UAE National Day features the portrait of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Nearby is a model of a spaceship. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was inspired by a meeting with pioneers of the American space agency NASA in 1976 to express his ambitions to include the UAE in space exploration.

Emirates Mars Mission ‘Hope Probe’ journey in 2021 titled ‘Emirates Mission to Explore Mars – The Hope Probe’ is depicted at the top of the note to the left of the portrait of Sheikh Zayed. A security symbol was added on both sides of the note to mark the arrival of the first Emirati astronaut in space. An image of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi can also be seen on the reverse side of the note.

The design of the note consists of different shades of brown. Apart from the fluorescent blue markings of the UAE national brand in the centre, the images and inscriptions created using advanced intaglio printing techniques will make the note easy to identify for the public. CBUAE Governor Khalid Mohammed Balama said that the new 1000 dirham note is being launched under the vision of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to sustain the comprehensive development the country is witnessing.
