Organized under the patronage of Mr. Anatole Collinet Makosso, Prime Minister, Head of Government of Congo, the Ordinary General Assembly of UCESA brought together more than 100 participants, representing the African Economic and Social Councils, the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Madagascar, national and international institutions, partners, including ECOSOCC of the African Union, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Union of Economic and Social Councils of the Francophonie, as well as the Economic and Social Councils of Europe and China, indicates a press release from the Economic, Social and Environmental Council of Morocco (CESE).
On this occasion, adds the press release, Mr. Ahmed Reda Chami, President of the EESC and current President of UCESA, presented the results of the Union’s transformation and development projects, emphasizing the improvement the positioning and visibility of the umbrella organization among CES members and partners, the consolidation of its financing methods, as well as the establishment of reference documents for the CES and the various pan-African institutions in charge of regional integration .
In this context, UCESA adopted the 2024-2030 strategic plan, which carries the vision and main axes of development of the umbrella organization, said the press release, noting that this strategic plan, developed according to an iterative and participatory approach, aims ambition to provide support to ESC members in terms of visibility and continuous improvement of operating methods, as well as in the formulation of relevant solutions on priority subjects for African citizens.
This General Assembly was also marked by the signing of a cooperation agreement between UCESA and the IOM for the carrying out of an in-depth study relating to climate mobility in the DRC. The purpose of this study is to promote understanding of the factors of climate mobility and the development of policies and strategies for the proactive integration of migration induced by climate change in the planning and development of Congo, continues the press release. .
On the occasion of this Assembly, UCESA approved the membership of the Tripartite Negotiation Forum (TNF) of Zimbabwe, an institution responsible for socio-economic development through the promotion of social dialogue in the country. This initiative is part of the strengthening of the regional integration process, by focusing efforts on the states of southern Africa, which are still very poorly represented within the African umbrella.
UCESA also organized, on October 9, in partnership with the MERI Foundation and the CESE Congo, a conference under the theme “Environmental issues and sustainable development in Africa”, in which experts, decision-makers, as well as other key players in sustainable development in Africa, to debate sustainable urban mobility, water governance and regional governance of natural resources.
