Uijeongbu Art Library announced on the 27th that it had finally selected artists Hyewon Seo and Choi Choi as the 10th new artists for Open Studio.
Uijeongbu Art Library is a new paradigm specialized public library that combines art and books, and serves as a public platform for the art field.
In particular, we operate an open studio to support new artists, provide a space for creative activities, and promote cultural communication with citizens. From 2019 to present, a total of 18 artists have passed through Open Studio, and artists Hyewon Seo and Choi Choi were selected for the 10th session.
Artist Hyewon Seo’s work focuses on the history of living organisms that interact with humans, especially plants. Through delicate image crafting, the visual expression of plants is explored and the relationship between humans and nature is illuminated.
Author Choi So-ra continues to create original works with the theme of working mothers. Based on her experience as a fashion marketing instructor, she is expressing social perspectives and cultural issues regarding working mothers through art.
An official from the Art Library said, “We sincerely congratulate the two artists selected this time,” and added, “We hope that our activities at Open Studio will serve as a great foundation for our leap forward as artists.”
Open studio-related contest information can be found on the library website (announcements), and other information can be obtained from the Art Library (031-828-8868).
Meanwhile, Uijeongbu City (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 27th that it would additionally designate areas around sports facilities and outdoor exercise equipment as non-smoking zones to improve citizens’ health and create a pleasant public environment.
This additional designation of no-smoking areas was prepared as the amendment to the ‘Uijeongbu City Ordinance on Designation of No-smoking Areas and Prevention of Secondhand Smoking Damage’ was approved at the 2nd regular meeting of the 333rd Uijeongbu City Council.
According to the revision of the ordinance, recreational sports facilities based on Article 6 of the ‘Act on Installation and Use of Sports Facilities’ and within a 5m radius around outdoor sports equipment based on the ‘Uijeongbu City Outdoor Sports Equipment Installation and Management Ordinance’ are designated as non-smoking zones.
Excluding recreational sports facilities located in parks and government buildings, which are currently smoke-free zones, there are 45 recreational sports facilities designated as new non-smoking zones, and the number of outdoor exercise equipment installation locations is 124 (735 pieces of equipment).
Following the designation of a new no-smoking zone, the city operates a six-month guidance period and actively promotes to citizens the necessity of designating a no-smoking zone and how to comply with it.
After the guidance period, a fine of 50,000 won will be imposed in accordance with the ‘Uijeongbu City Ordinance on Designation of Non-Smoking Areas and Prevention of Secondhand Smoking Damage’ if smoking is detected in non-smoking areas through regular crackdowns.
This expansion of non-smoking areas is intended to reduce the damage caused by second-hand smoking in public places and provide a healthy and comfortable environment for users of sports facilities, and is expected to contribute to protecting citizens’ right to health and spreading an anti-smoking culture.
A city official said, “This measure is intended to protect the health of citizens and the comfort of public spaces at the same time,” and added, “We will continue to promote anti-smoking campaigns and smoking prevention policies to create a healthy urban environment.”
