During his visit to the United States, Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov agreed to build up his country’s defense potential “within the framework of the August agreements” on strategic defense. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. At the same time, the White House is not ready to announce the expansion of military assistance to Kiev.
“Negotiations were held on the situation on the borders of our state, as a result of which they came to an agreement on building up the defense potential of Ukraine within the framework of the August 2021 agreements on strategic defense regarding reform in the defense sector,” the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said in a statement.
Mr. Reznikov thanked Washington for supporting Ukraine “since the beginning of the war with Russia.” He argues that the data from Kiev and Washington on the “military activity of Russia” and on the “hybrid attack with the help of migrants through Belarus” converge. “I am glad that this visit to Washington took place, and I highly appreciate its results. <...> I saw a real indifference to Ukraine, ”the defense minister said in a statement.
White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said at a briefing that she had “nothing to announce” about additional aid to Ukraine. The White House broadcast the briefing in Twitter… Ms Psaki recalled that Washington is already providing assistance to Kiev – “military and non-military”.
The United States transferred 80 tons of ammunition to Ukraine in mid-November. This is the fourth shipment of Washington’s $ 60 million security assistance that Joe Biden ordered in August. The supply of weapons is taking place against the backdrop of the aggravation of the situation in Donbass.
