Two people were killed in southern Ukraine’s Kherson province after a new wave of Russian airstrikes and shelling overnight Sunday into Monday, Ukrainian officials said.

Kherson Governor Oleksandr Prokhudin said a 72-year-old man and an elderly woman were killed by a Russian attack in the province, while three other people were wounded, without elaborating.

According to Mr. Prokudin, four other people were injured by a drone strike in the city of Berislav. “The invaders deliberately attacked a place where there were a lot of people by throwing explosives near a local bus station,” he explained.

For his part, Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper said that the city of Izmail, on the banks of the Danube River where a port used to export Ukrainian grain is located, was the target of a new drone attack, but did not specify whether port infrastructure was damaged. .

Mr Kiper pointed out that 11 drones were destroyed over the province, adding that an entertainment venue was damaged in the small town of Wilcove. A fire that broke out there was quickly extinguished, he added.

In neighboring Mykolaiv province, the governor said falling debris caused a fire in a building in the Snihurifka commune that is not in use. The fire was extinguished immediately, but neighboring buildings were damaged by the explosion, he noted, without giving further details.

The Ukrainian Air Force announced that overnight it shot down 18 of 24 Russian drones launched against the country, as well as 17 cruise missiles in Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava and Khmelnytskyi provinces.

Khmelnytskyi’s deputy governor said roofs and windows of several houses were damaged by explosions, while debris fell on an industrial site and damaged train tracks.
