The tenth edition of the 72 hours of local milk will be held from October 24 to 26, 2024 in Ouagadougou at the Palais de la Jeunesse et de la Culture Jean-Pierre Guingané. Eight days before the start of the festival, the organizing committee outlined the main points of this 10th edition which will be marked by the launch of the “Faire Faso Lait-Equitable” brand.
The 10th edition of the 72 hours of local milk will be held around the theme: “10 years of the 72 hours of local milk: assessment and perspectives”. The 72 hours of local milk is an initiative of the National Union of Small Dairies and Local Milk Producers of Burkina Faso (UMPLB) with the aim of promoting the milk sector in Burkina Faso. In this context, UMPLB has developed the brand “Faire Faso Lait-Equitable”. The 10th edition will mark the official launch of the “Faire Faso Lait-Equitable” brand now recognized by the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI).
« How can we give consumers to recognize our milk? When they see our milk, they know it is Burkinabè milk. Is it a product made from local milk from animals in Burkina Faso? That’s why we launched the Fair Faso Lait-Equitable brand. The brand will allow Burkinabè producers to make a living from their activities. It is a tool to identify our local milk and promote our milk. With the Faire Faso Lait-Equitable brand, we are in line with the Local Consumption policy. », Explained Yacouba Barry National Coordinator (UMPLB).
The 72 hours of local milk is an opportunity for stakeholders in the milk sector to establish partnerships. These are B2B meetings with national and international players. It is a combination of milk practices with the aim of strengthening quality and excellence in the processing of dairy products. Thanks to the combination, according to Yacouba Barry, UMPLB received NBF Certification; “Burkina Faso Standard” of the Burkinabè Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Quality (ABNORM). The NBF certificate is proof of the excellence of the dairy products produced by UMPLB dairies on the national territory, informed Yacouba Barry. ” Promoting our milk is a step forward “, he argued.
The 10th edition of the 72 hours of milk will be an opportunity for UMPLB to assess the progress made in the promotion of the milk sector in Burkina Faso, examine the current challenges and devise strategies to sustain the activity. ” Stakeholders in the sector wish to comprehensively assess the past 10 editions, evaluate the practices implemented, and generate new perspectives. In addition to the assessment and perspectives, tasting of local dairy products (Gapal, Cheese, Fresh Pasteurized Milk and Yoghurt), the 72 Hours of Local Milk Fair is planned with the participation of almost a hundred exhibition dairies.
