UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said on Sunday that the most effective way to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip is through land routes, Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax.

“Deliveries require the operation of many checkpoints and access points. The only effective and efficient way to transport heavy cargo is by road,” Western media quoted him as saying after negotiations in Cairo with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

“To ease the situation, it is necessary for Israel to remove the remaining obstacles and restrictions on transport flows,” the secretary general noted.

According to him, the failure to solve the current problems of the residents of the Gaza Strip “is throwing the authority of the international community into a state of crisis.”

He added that the UN is working to ensure sustainable funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). In January, Israel accused 12 UNRWA employees of participating in an attack by the Palestinian Hamas movement on Israel. Following the Israeli accusations, a number of countries suspended funding for the agency, and the United States and Britain made it clear that they would not resume allocating funds until the investigation into UNRWA’s work was completed.
