The UN envoy to Syria, Adam Abdelmoula, is calling for an urgent international response to the country’s humanitarian crisis, which continues to deepen and remains one of the most catastrophic in the world. In his address to the international community, he stressed the need for more than $4 billion in humanitarian aid for over 10 million Syrians.

This was reported by The Times Of Israel.

Abdelmoula recalled that the Syrian conflict, which began 13 years ago, has led to the loss of nearly half a million lives and left much of the country in ruins. He stressed that the crisis in Syria, despite its duration and scale, often falls into the background on the global political agenda, which leads to the suffering of the Syrian people remaining underestimated.

“Today we are faced with an unprecedented situation in Syria that we cannot afford to ignore. Inaction will cost us all dearly and will inevitably lead to further suffering,” Abdelmoula told reporters in Geneva.

More than 16.7 million people in Syria are in need of humanitarian assistance, a million more than last year, according to a UN official. Of these, more than 7 million are forced to flee their homes and become internally displaced, and many more are forced to seek refuge abroad.

He believes that the conflict between Israel and Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip was a factor that allowed for increased military activity in certain areas of Syria.

Earlier, Kursor reported that the UN made a new anti-Israeli statement. The UN said Israel was involved in “horrible crimes.”
