jpnn.comJAKARTA – Former Manchester City and Real Madrid player Robinho will serve nine years in prison in his country, Brazil, for rape, Skysports reported on Thursday.

Robinho, who is currently 40 years old, was sentenced to nine years in prison by an Italian court in 2017 for being one of the perpetrators of a gang rape in 2013 at a nightclub in Milan.

Since being sentenced, Robinho has returned to his country and has not yet served his sentence.

Brazil itself does not extradite its citizens, so an Italian court ordered Robinho to be imprisoned in his country.

Judges at Brazil’s High Court voted 9-2 to uphold Robinho’s sentence.

Robinho’s lawyer, Jos Eduardo Alckmin, said that his client had not been jailed because he would appeal.

Robinho won two Spanish League titles in two seasons with Real Madrid before joining Manchester City in September 2008.

After playing for City, he moved to AC Milan, where he played for five seasons.
