After the Prosecutor’s Office confirmed an investigation against Monsalve for alleged sexual abuse, the now former undersecretary communicated his decision at a press point.
This afternoon at the La Moneda Palace, the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, He referred to the complaint against him for sexual abuse and submitted his resignation from office.
“I have a direct and daily relationship with the Public Ministry, with the Investigative Police (PDI) and with the Carabineros of Chile, and within the framework of this investigation, I have to guarantee the autonomy of the institutions to carry them out. I believe that this is incompatible with the exercise of my position.“, he explained.
For this reason, the now former Government authority maintained that “I have presented my resignation to the President of the Republic.”
“I did it because, as you know, a complaint was filed against me this week. I have to guarantee, and that is the basis for this decision, the normal functioning of the Government,” he reiterated.
The complaint of sexual abuse against Manuel Monsalve
Regarding the investigation carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office, Manuel Monsalve stated that “I have been informed this week that there is a complaint of which I do not know the details, I am absolutely convinced that I have not engaged in any conduct constituting a crime.“In the framework of the investigation I will prove my innocence.”
This Thursday, the media La Segunda announced that the complaint was filed on Monday, October 14, which was in charge of the Metropolitan North Central regional prosecutor, Xavier Armendariz.
Regarding this situation, the prosecutor said that “this is an investigation that is ongoing, with procedures completed and in progress.” To which he added: “There is indeed an investigation and it is under my responsibility.”
Along these lines, he maintained that “the position has never influenced the outcome of an investigation.” In addition to this, he neither ruled out nor confirmed a possible formalization.
