A handover ceremony in which the outgoing president, Edgard Leblanc Fils, did not participate, denouncing the presence of three members of the CPT accused of corruption by the former chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Credit Bank.
Although some ambassadors, such as that of Canada, were present, representatives of the United States, France, the United Nations General Secretariat and the European Union were absent. Several members of the Fanmi Lavalas movement, including Maryse Narcisse and Pasha Vorbe, also attended the ceremony.
In her speech, Leslie Voltaire stressed that the Agreement of April 3, 2024 was the result of “laborious negotiations, concessions and self-sacrifice on the part of political actors and civil society”. Determined to work with “patriotism and dedication,” Voltaire reaffirmed that the CPT will commit to promoting “more transparency and efficiency” to consolidate achievements and existing structures. He also stressed the need to restore hope and security for the Haitian people, while recalling the responsibility of each actor in the transition efforts.
