With assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh next month, one of the ruling party’s senior ministers in the state, Prasad Maurya, has resigned and posted on Twitter that he has joined Akhilesh Yadav’s party. He was accompanied by four MLAs, Roshan Lal Verma, Bhagwati Sagar, Vinay Sakya and Brijesh Kumar Prajapati, who left the BJP and joined Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party.

In his resignation letter to the BJP leadership, Prasad Maurya said, “I am resigning because Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has not continued to provide adequate representation to the Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes. “I am now affiliated with Akhilesh Yadav’s party.” He told reporters, “The BJP is well aware that this decision of mine will have a major impact on the UP elections.”
