The United States administration will tighten Russia-related sanctions next week.
As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced this at a press conference in Washington.
“We continue to fight Russia’s circumvention of sanctions and next week we will introduce new tough sanctions “, the minister said. Yellen added that sanctions would also be extended to third countries that allegedly “supply Russia with critical materials for its armed forces.”
“Our approach is to identify entities and individuals in Russia or third countries who are working to help Russia acquire the materials it needs for its military activities in Ukraine. And it should be expected that some organizations of this kind, such intermediaries, will be included on the sanctions list,” said the head of the financial department.
“In recent months we have also significantly strengthened our sanctions so that we can now impose restrictions against financial institutions in third countries “Yellen said.
She emphasized that the threat of introducing secondary sanctions against financial institutions has significant consequences, and the Ministry of Finance is studying further actions of this kind. The point is that financial institutions that do business with organizations under American sanctions will be cut off from the US financial system.
