US President Joe Biden arrived in Canada

by time news

US President Joe Biden arrived in the Canadian capital of Ottawa on Thursday, where he will meet with the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and deliver a speech in the Canadian Parliament, AFP and AP inform.

Business and climate change

The Biden administration has made strengthening friendship with Canada a priority over the past two years. Both sides see the meeting in Ottawa as an opportunity to make plans for the future.

“This visit is about evaluating what we’ve done, where we are and what we need to prioritize for the future,” US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said in connection with Biden’s trip.

Biden will discuss topics such as the war in Ukraine, climate change, trade and mass migration with the Canadian prime minister.

Trump has never visited Canada

As expected, the subject of negotiations between Biden and Trudeau will also be the issue of the use of minerals necessary for the production of electric vehicles, as well as military and economic commitments.

The US president will make a speech in the Canadian parliament on Friday and will attend a state dinner together with Trudeau in the evening, AP specifies. This is Biden’s first visit to Canada since taking office. However, Trudeau also hosted him at a state dinner in December 2016, when he was vice president – shortly before former US president Donald Trump took office.

Trump himself has never visited Canada for the purpose of bilateral negotiations, notes AP. He appeared in the country only at the summit of the G7 countries, after which, together with his allies from the White House, he called Trudeau “weak and dishonest”.
