Vanderbilt Men’s Tennis Announces Ambitious 2025-26 Schedule, Eyes NCAA Return

The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team unveiled its 2025-26 spring schedule on Tuesday, kicking off with a home doubleheader against Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech on January 14th, as the Commodores aim for a return to the NCAA Tournament.

The team narrowly missed an NCAA Tournament berth last season but has significantly bolstered its roster with the nation’s No. 1 ranked recruiting class, according to the Tennis Recruiting Network. This infusion of talent joins a squad already composed of six underclassmen, signaling a clear commitment to building a program around youthful potential.

Rising Star Leads the Charge

Leading the way for Vanderbilt is sophomore Pablo Martinez Gomez, who recently achieved a significant milestone for the program. He secured the team’s first NCAA Championships qualifier since the 2023-24 season after earning a co-champion singles title at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships. This performance underscores the potential within the team and sets a high bar for the upcoming season.

Challenging Non-Conference Slate

The schedule features a demanding non-conference portion designed to prepare the Commodores for the rigors of SEC play. Following the season opener, Vanderbilt will travel to Northwestern on January 17th before participating in the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, from January 23rd to 24th. This event, featuring 56 teams nationwide, offers a crucial pathway to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, with 14 teams qualifying for the February 6th-10th tournament.

A home match against Middle Tennessee on January 29th precedes a key early-season test against the University of Virginia on February 1st. Virginia, boasting six NCAA team championships in the last twelve years, represents a significant challenge. The matchup marks the first contest between the two programs since 2017, a closely contested 4-3 victory for the Cavaliers en route to their NCAA title. Vanderbilt will then complete its nonconference schedule hosting matches against Michigan State, Lipscomb, Xavier, Eastern Kentucky, and Butler.

SEC Competition and Postseason Goals

The Commodores will begin Southeastern Conference play on February 21st with a road contest against Mississippi State. A quick return home follows for a rivalry match against Tennessee on February 23rd. A challenging four-match road trip to Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Ole Miss will test the team’s resilience before Vanderbilt returns to Nashville to face Auburn on March 13th.

The team’s alumni weekend, scheduled for March 20th and 22nd, will feature matches against NCAA semifinalist Texas and Georgia, respectively. Further SEC matchups against LSU (March 29th), Alabama (April 10th – Senior Day), Kentucky, Florida, and South Carolina round out the regular season.

The SEC Tournament, hosted by Texas A&M, is slated for April 15th-19th, with NCAA Regionals beginning on May 1st. Vanderbilt, under the leadership of head coach Scott Brown, is determined to secure a second NCAA Tournament appearance after reaching the tournament in the 2023-24 season.
