The Vatican’s papal commission urged the Catholic church to facilitate the dismissal of priests who have abused boys and girls, in addition to guaranteeing victims “access to the truth.”
In a 50-page global report, the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors identified certain deficiencies in child protection and proposed policies to safeguard children and vulnerable adults.
Sean O’Malley, cardinal and leader of the commission, highlighted that the Church is emerging from a “dark period,” where its leaders “they failed tragically to those we are called to shepherd.”
Within the report, the global impact of these scandals was also detailed by pointing out criticism of the commission and the resignation of some of its members due to internal frustrations.
Juan Carlos Cruz, member of the commission and victim of abuse, highlighted the importance of the report and lamented the situation of “those who tragically are not with us today.”
“Many have committed suicide or have left this world without any hope. For them this day is important,” Cruz added.
Finally, the organization requested clearer responsibilities between Vatican departments and an efficient procedure for the resignation or dismissal of priests to expedite the dismissal process.

Certainly! Here’s an engaging interview scenario between the Time.news editor and an expert in their field, based on a hypothetical article.
Time.news Editor: Welcome to Time.news! Today, we’re diving into a fascinating topic with Dr. Lisa Grant, a renowned expert in sustainable urban development. Dr. Grant, thank you for joining us.
Dr. Grant: Thanks for having me! I’m thrilled to discuss the critical intersection of urban planning and sustainability.
Editor: Let’s jump right in. Your recent article highlights some alarming trends in urban growth. What are the main challenges cities are facing today concerning sustainability?
Dr. Grant: Urbanization is accelerating at an unprecedented rate. Cities are struggling with issues like pollution, waste management, and the urban heat island effect. There’s also the growing need for affordable housing, which often leads to unsustainable building practices.
Editor: You mentioned the urban heat island effect. Could you elaborate on that and its implications for city dwellers?
Dr. Grant: Absolutely. The urban heat island effect occurs when cities become significantly warmer than their rural surroundings, primarily due to human activities. This can lead to increased energy consumption for cooling, elevated emissions of air pollutants, and heat-related health issues. It’s a pressing concern as we face more extreme weather patterns due to climate change.
Editor: It sounds daunting. What are some innovative solutions cities are implementing to combat these issues?
Dr. Grant: There are several promising strategies! For instance, cities are adopting green infrastructure—like green roofs and urban forests—to help cool the environment and manage stormwater. Additionally, promoting public transit and cycling infrastructure reduces car dependency and emissions.
Editor: That’s encouraging to hear! However, transitioning to these solutions can be challenging. What do you think are the biggest hurdles in implementing sustainable practices in urban settings?
Dr. Grant: One major hurdle is political will. Sustainable initiatives often require upfront investment, which can be difficult in budget-strapped municipalities. There’s also the challenge of existing infrastructure, which can be costly to retrofit. Community engagement is crucial, too; without public buy-in, even the best plans can falter.
Editor: Very true. Speaking of community, how important is public awareness and participation in fostering urban sustainability?
Dr. Grant: It’s absolutely vital! Educating the public about sustainability issues empowers residents to advocate for smarter policies and practices. Community participation can also lead to innovative local solutions, as people are more likely to support changes that align with their needs and values.
Editor: Excellent points, Dr. Grant. Before we wrap up, what advice would you give to young professionals entering the field of urban planning and sustainability?
Dr. Grant: Stay curious and embrace interdisciplinary approaches! Sustainability challenges are complex and require collaboration across various sectors. Networking and engaging in community initiatives can also provide invaluable experience and insights.
Editor: Thank you, Dr. Grant, for sharing your expertise with us today. It’s clear that while challenges abound, the path to sustainable urban living is filled with potential if we work together.
Dr. Grant: Thank you for the opportunity! I’m excited to see how our cities can evolve into greener, smarter places for everyone.
