Days after the inauguration of Nicolas MaduroVenezuelan opponents have accused Maduro’s Chavista government of retaliation against their relatives. Edmundo González Urrutiawho is unaware of the autocrat’s re-election, denounced from Washington the kidnapping of his son-in-law, Rafael Tudares.
The event occurred in Caracaswhen hooded men intercepted Tudares while he was taking his grandchildren to school. According to González Urrutia, the attackers “put him in a truck,” and since then he has been missing. The regime authorities have not issued statements in this regard.

In parallel, the opposition Maria Corina Machadowho leads from clandestinity, denounced harassment towards his mother, 84 years old. According to Machado, agents of the regime surrounded the elderly person’s house, install seals and cut off the electricity supply in the area. “Maduro has no limits in his evil. Cowards,” he expressed on the X network.

Machado, 57, maintains that chavismo is weakened and called for mobilizations throughout the country before Friday’s swearing-in. “We all know who the president-elect is,” he stated, reinforcing his support for González Urrutia.
With the tense political landscape and opposition families under pressure, Venezuela is on the verge of new protests.
