Verdi is again calling for a warning strike in retail. This time Lidl and Kaufland are to go on strike.
The Verdi union is once again calling on retail and wholesale workers to go on a warning strike. “This time the Schwarz Group’s supermarket chains are being looked at,” the union announced on Tuesday. Verdi wants to hold her action days this week under the motto “Easter is just around the corner, so are we!” continue, the highlight is supposed to be Thursday with central strike actions.
The Schwarz Group includes, among others, Lidl and Kaufland. In previous weeks of action, Edeka and Rewe had gone on strike. Verdi is demanding at least 2.50 euros more per hour for retail workers, and a percentage increase of 13 percent in wholesale and foreign trade, but at least 450 euros.
Verdi demands more money for employees
Verdi justifies the strike by saying that the Schwarz group has considerable influence in the collective bargaining committees due to its size, but does not use it. “Instead, like all other large retail groups, they support the refusal of the employers’ associations, which have been refusing any discussions and solutions with the employee side for weeks,” said Silke Zimmer, Verdi’s federal board member responsible for retail.
“The owner of the Schwarz Group, Dieter Schwarz, is one of the richest Germans,” Zimmer continued and criticized: “It is a disgrace that an entrepreneur like him has allowed employees to have a fair, Wait for a legally secure and collectively agreed increase in their wages.”
