The project to install in France the “largest video game museum in the world” was put on track on Sunday November 5 with the blessing of Emmanuel Macron, during the last day of the Paris Games Week 2023 show. YouTuber Benoît Theveny alias Tev launched a crowdfunding campaign six weeks ago to support this museum which will house the largest collection of consoles in the world.

“A living city” of video games

The fundraising campaign had raised more than 1.75 million euros yesterday morning with 22,000 contributions. The collections, brought together by Ludovic Charles, an enthusiast who has accumulated 2,200 consoles and video games, will retrace the entire history of this mass leisure activity with many rare pieces. The idea of a “Japanese village”, dedicated to a culture very popular among gamers, appealed.

Emmanuel Macron validated this project called “Odyssey” on November 5 via a video message on Ici Japon, Tev’s Twitch channel. “I simply wanted to give you my support and my high patronage for your video game museum project, an active museum, a living city (…). We will be there to make things easier for you, to support you, to see this project through to the end”promises the head of state.

Attendance on the rise at Paris Games Week

The museum should open its doors in 2026 in Bussy-Saint-Georges (Seine-et-Marne) in a space of 3,500 m². The announcement delighted amateurs and professionals present at Paris Games Week. From November 1 to 5, the largest video game show in France brought together console manufacturers – Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo – and publishers, including Ubisoft and Bandai, and was very well attended, with attendance estimated at 200,000 visitors.
