Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, witnessed the launch ceremony of the National Strategy for Social Protection and the National Strategy to address the repercussions of the spread of the phenomenon of drugs and psychotropic substances.
The National Council for Economic and Social Development, headed by Mahmoud Al-Futaisi, announced the adoption of the National Strategy for Social Protection and the National Strategy to address the repercussions of the spread of the phenomenon of drugs and psychotropic substances in Libya.
Al-Dabaiba said: “We announce the adoption of the launch of the national strategy and the national strategy to address the spread of the drug phenomenon.”
He added: “The government is working to develop economic plans that contribute to the development of the country,” noting that “social protection programs contribute to lifting the burdens of life on the citizen.”
He said: “We are working jointly with the Attorney General on the file of combating narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.”
He added: “The fight against drugs and psychotropic substances is a sensitive issue and cannot wait to be worked on. The judicial and executive authorities will begin implementing measures to combat drugs in all institutions.”
He stressed, “Activating rehabilitation centers is one of the important paths within this file,” adding: “We will strike with an iron fist anyone who dares to harm the security of the citizen.”
He also stressed “the importance of the role assigned to the Council in preparing the necessary national strategies at this stage, the most important of which is the interest in social protection through launching the necessary initiatives such as the wife and children’s grant, facilitating marriage, youth lending, and others, in addition to launching the national strategy that organizes these activities and initiatives.”
Al-Dabaiba also praised “the cooperation between the Attorney General’s Office, the Ministry of Justice, and the National Council for Economic Development, in preparing the national strategy to address the repercussions of the spread of the phenomenon of drugs and psychotropic substances, which contributes to taking executive steps to combat this phenomenon, and the establishment of social and justice centers concerned with this file.”
At the end of the celebration, Al-Dabaiba adopted strategies and issued instructions to the Ministries of Social Affairs and Justice to work in accordance with them.
In his speech, the Director General of the Council, Mahmoud Al-Futaisi, stressed “the government’s role in formulating national strategies that aim to combat poverty and destitution, and protect society from the spread of the phenomenon of drugs and psychotropic substances, by assigning the Council to participate with more than 27 ministries and government sectors and a number of national experts to formulate The strategies adopted today, and we are working to complete another number before the end of this year.”
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Al-Taher Al-Baour, Minister of Social Affairs, Wafaa Al-Kilani, Minister of Justice, Halima Ibrahim, and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Adel Gomaa, participated in the event. The accreditation ceremony was also attended by a number of deputy ministers, heads of institutions and bodies, and representatives of relevant international organizations.
