A man has been arrested in the case of stealing police tear gas shells in Sri Lanka, where the agitation continues despite the declaration of emergency. The tear gas shells that were being taken to the protest site were intercepted by the police vehicle and abducted. A 31-year-old man was arrested during the investigation conducted by the police. The media reported quoting the police that 50 tear gas shells were found in his house.

A police vehicle was attacked during the July 13 riots at General Junction near Parliament. After thousands of protestors had gathered, policemen who returned here in an autorickshaw with tear gas shells were attacked. A group of protesters blocked the vehicle and attacked the policemen. After that, the gang seized the weapons inside. Then the group left the place with weapons. Some of these tear gas shells are said to have been used in subsequent clashes.
