There is also a second round, which will take place on October 27 in those single-member constituencies where no winner will be identified. The two candidates with the most votes advance to the second round.
1,740 candidates – representatives of 16 political parties and a coalition of three parties – will compete for 141 parliamentary seats. In multi-member constituencies, a party must overcome a five percent threshold in order to enter the Seimas and form a faction in it.
The top three favorites, according to experts and public opinion polls, include the opposition Social Democratic Party of Lithuania, the ruling conservative party Fatherland Union – Christian Democrats of Lithuania and the newcomer to the parliamentary elections – the political party Dawn on the Neman.
