Aaron Judge‘s Historic Pace Continues
Adding intrigue to this rivalry clash is the continued ascent of Yankees slugger Aaron Judge. On Friday night, Judge hit his 362nd career home run, surpassing Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio on the Yankees’ all-time list. The monumental blast, a 468-foot shot over the Green Monster off Boston’s Lucas Giolito, gave New York a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Yankees went on to win that game 4-1, extending their AL East lead over the Red Sox to 1 1/2 games.
Judge, though, downplayed the significance of individual records compared to team success. “It’s special, but just like all those guys in front of me on those lists, they weren’t playing for records. They were playing to win,” Judge stated. “I’m just trying to follow in their footsteps. I’m here to win.”
The Yankees captain reached this milestone in his 1,130th game. For context, DiMaggio played 1,736 games and hit his final home run on Sept. 28, 1951. Judge recently passed Yogi Berra for fifth on the Yankees’ career home run list and has now hit 47 home runs for the current season, wiht four in his last four games. His batting average also climbed to a league-best .323 after going 1-for-3 with two walks on Friday.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone acknowledged the impact of Judge’s long ball, saying, “That was a big shot in the arm for us, to get it going. Aaron hitting one of those – you know, one of those Aaron blows – definitely got the boys going.”
While Judge chases past marks, his ultimate goal remains a World Series title, something DiMaggio, Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, and Lou Gehrig all achieved multiple times with the yankees.

aaron Judge’s 468-foot home run on Friday was the longest at Fenway Park this season and the longest at the historic ballpark as his own 470-foot blast last July.
