Nasser Yassin, Minister of Environment and Chairman of the National Emergency Committee in Lebanon, told Reuters, “His country needs $250 million per month to help one million displaced people due to Israeli attacks, to cover the costs of basic services such as food, water, sanitation, and education for the displaced.”
He added: “The government’s response, supported by local initiatives and international aid, has covered only 20 percent of the needs of about 1.3 million displaced people who are currently residing in public buildings or with their relatives.”
“These needs are likely to increase as daily waves of airstrikes push more people to leave their homes while the Lebanese government makes efforts to find ways to shelter them,” Yassin said.
Yassin continued: “We need a ceasefire today and we need every individual in the international community, for once… to be courageous enough to say what is happening.”
“If the numbers of displaced people continue to rise, Lebanon will not be able to prevent possible illegal immigration to Europe,” Yassin said, adding: “We will not prevent people from leaving, and exploiting every means to leave these atrocities that occur every day.”
Yassin explained that “the extent of the damage caused to Lebanon as a result of the Israeli attacks is estimated at billions of dollars,” adding: “Entire villages have been blown up on the border in the past few days, in addition to public institutions, water facilities, pumping stations, and hospitals. All of this needs to be rebuilt.”
Nasser Al-Saidi, the former Minister of Economy, said, “The Israeli bombing caused damage that will cost $25 billion to repair.”
