[Físeán]Shikinzan/Comet Atlas caught on camera broadcasting fireworks display (yesterday)
Before 18:00 – Pay attention to the western sky
(brightness)
Comet Shikinzan-Atlas is at its brightest in the first half of October, and appears to be 3rd magnitude or higher.
The comet is expected to dim in brightness from this week, but as it moves away from the sun as seen from Earth, the sky will fall behind it, making it easier to see . Especially around the 20th (Sunday), there is a good balance between the brightness behind the comet and the brightness of the comet, making it probably the best time for observing.
As the comet moves further from Earth next week, it is expected to become smaller and smaller.
(direction and time)
Until the first week of October, it was visible in the eastern sky at dawn, but now it is visible in the western sky after sunset. The best chance to see it is from about 6pm after sunset.
If you compare the same time zone, the height will rise from day to day, and the time zone will reach the same height later each day. In areas where the western sky is clear, observation around 7pm will be good around the 20th (Sunday).
How to see Comets
It was visible in the morning sky at the beginning of this month.
At that time of year, you will be able to see the comet with your own eyes if you use a telescope or binoculars. If possible, observe it in a place with a clear view of the low western sky, check the direction of the comet using a star map app, and use Venus or other landmarks as landmarks to look for it.
If you have a camera with an adjustable exposure time, telephoto lens, tripod, etc., you should be able to take photos from around the 14th (Monday). Another method is to take pictures with a camera through an astronomical telescope.
Comet Shikinzan-Atlas this time could be as bright as Comet NEOWISE in 2020, making it the brightest comet in four years.
Not only comets that approach periodically, but also many recently discovered ones, such as the Shikinzan/Atlas comet, so it’s a good idea to check the information from time to time.
A phenomenon that can easily be mistaken for a comet (broom star)
In the case of comets, they begin to appear about an hour after sunset. Its speed of movement is almost the same as the fixed speed of objects like the sun, so if it changes its position and disappears from view within a few minutes, it could be a cloud like a contral.
If the trailing light lasts less than a few seconds, it could be a meteor. In the case of a comet, it is not visible for one minute.
Evening western sky: A day without many clouds or pigeons is a good chance.
If the western sky is cloudy or the low altitude is hazy, it will be difficult to observe the comet. Try observing comets with the weather forecast on your side.
