In a welfare petition filed in the Madurai branch of the Premnath High Court in the Dhanthoni area of Karur, a cockfight has been going on in the Poolamvalasu village of Aravakurichi taluka, Karur district for the last 20 years on the eve of Pongal festival.
However, in these cockfighting matches it is illegal to tie a knife to a rooster’s leg and let it fight. Due to this, law and order problem arises every year. Therefore, cockfighting should be banned in Poolamvalasu village, Aravakurichi taluka, Karur district. ”

The petition came up for hearing before Judges Vaithiyanathan and Jayachandran before the session. They questioned how cockfighting was allowed in the face of increasing corona infection. They also ordered the Tamil Nadu government to file a reply to the case and adjourned the case till January 25.
