Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or autogas has become a ‘clean’ alternative to gasoline and diesel. With these latest fuels, through a simple conversion, it is possible to obtain the ECO label from the DGT and thus ‘get around’ the limitations that are imposed. They reinforced this January 1, 2024 with the Low Emission Zones (ZBE).

And having this sticker is key to guaranteeing free access, circulation and parking in these areas. In fact, the objective over the next few years is to tighten access restrictions to them in order to reduce pollution in large urban centers.

Faced with this situation, more and more drivers are choosing to convert their gasoline cars to LPG, an option that is not only more sustainable, but also allows save up to 40% when refuelingaccording to Astrave, the Association of Vehicle Transformers.

The transformation to LPG allows vehicles, which comply with Euro 4 regulations onwards, to obtain the ECO label from the DGT and save up to 40% in fuel

Furthermore, far from reducing autonomy, vehicles with an LPG tank work by combining it with gasoline. Thus, they can reach a range of up to 1,200 kilometers, which means they can continue circulating until they find one of the almost 800 service stations where they can refuel LPG.

But which are the models that have been converted to LPG the most in 2022? The Toyota company stands as the brand with the most conversions from gasoline cars to LPG. In the case of the Prius, Prius Plus and Corolla models, it is because they constitute a large part of the taxi fleet in Spain, and taxis are one of the sectors in which the most conversions to LPG are carried out to obtain the ECO label and contribute to more efficient and sustainable mobility.

In addition to these, there are two other Toyota models within the ranking: RAV4 and Auris. Thus, the brand becomes the absolute leader in LPG transformations within the national territory. In second place is Dacia, with the Duster and Sandero models as the main references. Kia, Ford, Porsche and Fiat are the brands that complete this ranking, which is expected to include more and more automotive brands.
