When the corona pandemic came to an end, the remains of Germany’s largest corona test chain continued to pile up in a former Aldi store for months. What was once a hot commodity in the fight against the treacherous virus quickly became superfluous, superfluous paraphernalia of a lost era: hundreds of thousands of latex gloves and protective masks. There are also dozens of refrigerators, laboratory equipment and label printers. Disinfectant, hectoliters. And three thousand egg timers.

They could have lavishly equipped a museum of the epidemic period, which, according to the World Health Organization, only passed in May, but which already seems endlessly far away today.
