The WhatsApp messenger (owned by Meta – recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) began to introduce the function of instant video messages in correspondence. About it reported company blog.

“Users now have the ability to record and send short personal videos directly in their conversations,” WhatsApp said, adding that the feature will become available to everyone in the coming weeks.

You can record a video message for 60 seconds. The function will work on the principle of recording an audio message – you will need to press and hold the corresponding button or swipe up on it so as not to hold. It is clarified that when you open a message, the video will play without sound, to listen to it, you need to click on the video itself.

The company claims that video messages are securely protected by end-to-end encryption.

The fact that WhatsApp began testing video messages was reported by the WABatInfo portal in mid-June. According to him, the company will introduce this feature in the latest beta updates for iOS and Android.

In early June, WhatsApp officially introduced the channels feature within the messenger. Channel admins will be able to post messages, photos, videos, stickers, and polls. Subscribers only have the option to view the content. The channels are currently available to select organizations and media outlets in Colombia and Singapore, and will roll out to all regions in the coming months. Any user can create a channel.

The function of short video messages is in the Telegram messenger. She appeared in it in April 2017, and channels – in September 2015.
