Where is it snowing now live: The areas with the most snow in Attica

by time news

The first good wave of snow arrives in Attica from Monday evening, with Tuesday being the most difficult day, since the snow will cover the northern suburbs in white, but also the western ones, where great care is needed.

Already, since yesterday the snows have made their appearance in the mountains of Evia, specifically in the villages of Seta and Steni. Since the evening, snowfalls have also occurred in Hippocrates Politia, but also in Villas of Attica.

Hippocrates State / Forecast Weather

Those planning a trip in the next few hours should be particularly careful, as problems are expected on the National Highway Athens – Lamia, due to heavy snowfall from Agios Stefanos and above. Things will be more difficult for the prefecture of Boeotia.

At the same time, we will see snow today, according to the updated EMY emergency bulletin, in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of Thessaly, Sporades, central and eastern Sterea, Evia and in the northern and eastern parts of the Peloponnese.

Great care is also needed in the winds, which will blow gusty up to 10 Beaufort.

The time of Attica – In which areas will it be laid

The snow will be intense from Monday night in Attica. The heavy snowfalls start this evening snowfall intensity from the evening in the mountains and semi-mountains and from night in areas with a relatively lower altitude (indicative 300 – 400 meters).

According to the forecasts of the meteorologists, it will spread in the northern suburbs of Attica (Agios Stefanos, Ekali, Hippocrates Politia, Dionysos), as well as in Thrakomakedones, Liosia. In Villas, in particular, the snow will even exceed 70 centimeters in height.

Klearchos Marousakis in his post on Facebook recommends paying particular attention to the northwestern arc (that is, around the massif of Kithairon and western Parnitha) where there the phenomenon will be more organized in intensity and duration and at lower altitudes.

In areas such as Maroussi and Kifissia there may be snowfall, but nothing serious is expected.

Chains are mandatory in Attica

Cars of all categories must be equipped with anti-skid chains or other similar anti-skid means due to bad weather, by decision of the Traffic Director of Attica, from 22:00 today, Monday 29-01-2024.

It is noted that this is valid as long as these vehicles do not have special tires when they travel on the entire road network of the Prefecture of Attica.

Drivers of vehicles must:

  • to ensure that their vehicles are provided with suitable anti-slip means, as well as a sufficient amount of fuel,
  • to know how to install and operate the anti-slip means they carry,
  • to adjust their driving according to the prevailing conditions,
  • be especially careful when driving,
  • to comply with the signals and instructions of the traffic controllers.

New data from the snow by Clearchos Marousakis

What Clearchos Marousakis says in his new forecast for Attica:

“Because there has been a lot of talk in the last few hours about how much Attica will be affected by the snow we expect, we present the latest data that the second forecast model we are running gave us a little while ago, noting the following:

In the prefecture of Attica in general high levels of snowfall can be seen, which our forecasting system calculates near 400 to 500 meters and above. That is, the snowfall should be located from 400 to 500 meters and above (first map).

This is due to the northeast wind which comes through the Aegean. Because so far there has not been any significant period with winter conditions, the temperatures in the Aegean sea are higher (16 to 17 degrees) and in combination with the moisture carried by these winds passing through the sea create an intense mixing in the low layer of the atmosphere that essentially raises snowfall levels (second map – winds).

An exception to the whole development is the north-west arc of the prefecture of Attica where it will not receive the effect of this north-east wind to a strong degree and we will see snowfalls more organized in intensity and duration with an indicative altitude of 200 to 300 meters and above (third map – snowfall ).

in conclusion

The prefecture of Attica will see significant snowfalls not very low but at an altitude of 400 to 500 meters and above. That is, mountainous – semi-mountainous areas and a little lower in the northern parts (Drosia, Agios Stefanos and above).

ATTENTION in the north-western arc (that is, around the mountainous mass of Kithairon and western Parnitha where the phenomenon will be more organized in intensity and duration and at lower altitudes.

There is no need to panic in the prefecture of Attica where, as everything shows, we do not seem to be at the center of bad weather.
