The White House is now officially announcing that for its part Russia has invaded Ukraine. Which paved the way for heavy US sanctions against the Russians.

Earlier today, President Biden signed a presidential decree imposing sanctions on the two separatist regions in which Putin has recognized eastern Ukraine. The order prohibits investment and trade between American personalities and locals.

The order also makes it possible to impose sanctions on anyone who acts in these areas. White House spokeswoman Jen Saki said “further sanctions related to Russia’s violations today” would come later.

Johnson presents: These are the first sanctions on Russia

Sanctions also on Johnson’s part

Earlier today, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson officially announced the imposition of heavy sanctions on Russia. And at their center are five Russian banks.

“Putin is making a false presentation that would justify a widespread invasion. I spoke with Ukrainian President Kiev after Putin’s remarks and promised him the absolute support of Britain,” Johnson said in his speech. “Now we and our allies will begin to impose the sanctions we have prepared in advance.” Johnson has announced sanctions against five banks: Rosis Bank, IS Bank, General Bank, PromiseBizbank and the Black Sea Bank. Sanctions will also be imposed on three individuals with high capital. “This is the first round of sanctions. We are preparing more sanctions if the situation worsens. We will not allow Putin to take our continent back years.”

An economic blow from the Germans

In Germany, too, a heavy economic sanction was imposed on the Russians today, when Chancellor Olaf announced that they would stop building the Nordstream 2 gas pipeline, which runs between Russia and Germany.

As you may recall, these sanctions and remarks come after Putin announced yesterday the annexation of pro-Russian separatist provinces in Donbas in eastern Ukraine, and ordered the sending of “peacekeepers” there. This morning a movement of unidentified tanks in the area was reported. Subsequently, it was announced in Russia that they intended to also recognize parts of these areas that are under the control of the Ukrainian government, in what gives way to a more extensive Russian invasion.
