New Delhi: Three of Britain’s top shotgun shooters, including Paris Olympic trap gold medalist Nathan Hales, will miss the ISSF World Cup final after being denied visas due to ‘confusion’ over paperwork, taking some of the shine off the prestigious competition. The World Cup finals began at the Karni Singh Range with top shooters from across the world, including Olympic and World Championship medal winners, taking part in training sessions on Monday.
The competitions will start from Tuesday. Former shooter Peter Wilson, Hales’ personal coach at the Paris Games, told PTI, ‘No, he (Hales) is not coming. He could not obtain his business visa on time. I don’t have complete details about it but there was a complication…I think what happened is that one of them (the shooter) had applied for a tourist visa which was accepted.

There was a problem due to visa
The legendary double trap shooter, who won a gold medal at the London Olympics 2012, said, ‘But then he was told that he had to apply for a business visa and there was a complication and it was either canceled and the rest was left pending. And they didn’t have time to complete the process. Wilson, who recently expressed his desire to train the Indian trap team, said it was a big blow to the British shooters.

“Obviously it’s a shame they’re not competing,” he said. There were three (shooters), two in men’s trap, Hales and Matt Coward-Hawley, and one in men’s skeet, Ben Llewellyn. ‘Ben got the tourist visa, but then our federation said he should reapply for the business visa.’ “He applied incorrectly and he was too late,” Wilson said. Obviously he was refused… I don’t know why he was refused.
NRAI had told the details in advance
Asked whether the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) had told the shooters which visa they had to apply for, Wilson said, “I believe so but I think at this point no one knows whose fault it is.” Is.’ He said, ‘But it is just a shame that out of all the teams, only the Great Britain team is here and the Olympic gold medalist is not there, so it is a matter of great shame.’
