“If you can’t register, there is a clause that allows you to leave the team as a free agent.”
Spanish professional soccer club Primera Liga faces the possibility of being forced to part ways with midfielder Dani Olmo, whom FC Barcelona signed after paying a transfer fee of 55 million euros (approximately 84.2 billion won).
The British media ‘Guardian’ reported on the 1st (Korean time) that Barcelona did not receive approval for Olmo registration from the La Liga secretariat.
According to media, Barcelona paid a transfer fee of 55 million euros last August to sign Olmo.
Olmo, who is from Spain and started playing soccer at the Barcelona youth level, distinguished himself at Dinamo Zagreb (Croatia) and Leipzig (Germany).
And he returned to his former team through the summer transfer window ahead of this season.
Although he was highly anticipated as a resource to add creativity in all regions of the second line, he faced the risk of leaving the team after only half a year.
In La Liga, there is a rule that allows each club to spend up to 70% of its profits on recruiting players.
However, Barcelona was unable to keep this due to financial difficulties.
Due to failing to meet the salary cap limit, Olmo was provisionally registered to play only until the first half of the season, but as the problem was not resolved by the start of the second half, he was unable to receive full registration from the secretariat.
According to the Guardian, Barcelona has conveyed to the secretariat a plan to meet the salary cap by selling VIP seats worth 100 million euros (approximately 153.1 billion won), but there is no time.
The media added, “Olmo’s contract includes a clause that allows him to leave the team as a free agent (FA) if the club fails to register the player.”
In other words, Barcelona faces a crisis where it could lose 55 million euros in transfer fees if it does not resolve the salary cap issue.
Meanwhile, not only Olmo but also striker Pau Victor is said to be in the same situation.
