Five years ago, Victor Campenaerts was one of the top croners of the elite, but since he was not consistent with victories, he decided to give a twist and become a classicomaniac. After a few years in this process, he has decided that in 2024 he will return to working on the goat, reviving that version that at the time led him to be European champion of the specialty.

Why did you decide to return to your old habits? It turns out that without expecting it, he won again in a time trial after 5 years, this, in the individual time trial of the Tour of Luxembourg in September. This victory revived his motivation to try to excel in exercise.
“That victory gave me the morale to start working more on it,” he confessed to Het Nieuwsblad. “I’m not going to go back to specializing like I used to, but I do want to get back on that time trial bike once or twice a week,” he clarified.
The above means that their idea is not to compete against those who dominate in the field (Evenepoel, Ganna, Tarling, among others), but rather that by resuming those specific jobs, they can have a sufficient level to prevail against a smaller cartel and that the time becomes an advantage to win general classifications of certain laps by stages.
“It could be good to try to fight for the general classification in the Tour of Belgium or Benelux. “I’m going to pay a little more attention to the time trial,” Campenaerts explained, that this being the case, even if it’s not to fight against the distinguished class of the moment, he will return to his jurisdiction.
