Coimbatore: In residential and densely populated areas of Coimbatore suburbs, there is a constant trend of breaking into locked houses and stealing jewelery from women passing by during the day. A few days ago, Subramaniam, a resident of Sinmaya Nagar, Vadavalli, locked his house and went to a wedding function in Palani with his family. Knowing this information, the thieves entered the house in broad daylight at noon by breaking the metal door at the back of the house in their own fashion.
Thirty pounds worth of jewelery and silverware and Rs 30,000 in cash were stolen from the house. The informed Vadavalli police arrived late as usual and along with the forensic police, conducted the investigation. But the thieves have not been caught yet. In this case, yesterday afternoon in the same area, the five-pound gold chain of a woman who was walking was stolen by thieves wearing helmets and riding bikes.
The people of the area say that although police patrols visit the area from time to time, but to no avail. Regarding this, Vakil Vennila, who lives in the same area, said: Vadavalli is a part of Coimbatore. A portion of the city’s population resides here. Accordingly, this area should be connected with the city police. Police checkposts should be set up in residential areas. Patrolling should be done during day time along with night patrolling. He said that Police Help Centers should be established in areas where people visit a lot.
