Fiat has two top sellers in its range: the small, cuddly 500 and the more mundane Ducato delivery van. It has been the market leader in its segment for the past seven years and even in the crisis year 2020 was able to increase its sales by eight percent to 150,000 units, thanks to the many motorhomes based on the Ducato.
Fiat has been selling the delivery van since 1981, it has now been thoroughly revised, but is still in principle on the platform from 2006. Especially with regard to the new assistance systems and connectivity options, we can speak of a leap in 2021; Today’s car colleagues can do everything from keyless entry to automatic parking to autonomous driving on a modest level 2. This includes, among other things, adaptive cruise control along with traffic sign recognition and an emergency braking system.
The electronic interior mirror is a nice feature. Of course, the instruments are digital, but only optional, as are the LED headlights on the redesigned front section. And Apple Car Play and Android Auto are available. The inside of the cab has been completely redesigned, including the steering wheel. There are larger shelves in the doors, the air conditioning does more, the third seat in the middle can be folded down and used as a work surface.

The engines have also been revised, cleaner, seven percent more economical and 15 kilograms lighter than before. It remains with front-wheel drive and a 2.3-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel in the variants with 120, 140, 160 or 180 hp. The maximum torque is between 320 and 450 Newton meters. A six-speed manual gearbox or a nine-speed automatic transmission are available, with air suspension now available as an option. The 6.40 meter variant has a loading volume of 17,000 liters.
