After the leak at Deer Park refinery last October 10, workers filed a lawsuit against Mexican Petroleum (Pemex) due to injuries.
It was last Thursday, October 10, that a spill due to a hydrogen sulfide leak in the Deer Park refinery of Pemex in Texas, United States around 4:40 p.m.
Due to this incident, it was reported 2 dead, 5 injured and 35 workers in total affected; four days after the fact, Pemex is already facing a lawsuit.
Deer Park workers file injury lawsuit against Pemex
In this context, today, Monday, October 14, it was announced that at least 3 workers at the Deer Park refinery filed a lawsuit against Pemex due to injuries.
The lawsuit was filed in Harris County District Court in Houston, as the workers allege they suffered gas injuries that spilled at the Pemex plant.
They also objected that Pemex committed acts and omissions considered negligencesince the company did not monitor or supervise the work in Deer Park, nor did it provide safe working conditions.
The affected workers who presented the injury claimfor more than a million dollars, are:
- Sergio Antonio Olvera
- Jonathan Martinez
- Yoselyn Soto

What has Pemex said about the Deer Park spill?
After the spill in the Deer Park refinery, Pemex initially reported that an acid gas leak had left 5 of the 35 affected workers injured, as well as 2 contractors dead.
The next day, Pemex announced that he maintained supervisory work in the Deer Park Refinery, despite the fact that the risk alert for the local population had already been lifted.
He also announced that the majority of those hospitalized had already been discharged and he was still aware of the follow-up of those affected.
Likewise, he reiterated that support mechanisms were deployed for the affected workers and that collaboration with the United States government was maintained for the corresponding investigations.
