The 44th World Chess Olympiad 2022 of the International Chess Federation was scheduled to take place in Moscow, Russia at the end of July. But the International Chess Federation recently announced that the Chess Olympiad will not be held in Moscow due to the war situation in Russia and Ukraine.
Following this, the All India Chess Federation worked with the Government of Tamil Nadu to secure the right to host the tournament. The city of Chennai has been selected by the International Chess Federation as the venue for the auction. Accordingly, it has been decided to hold the competition in Mamallapuram at the end of July.

The International Chess Federation has hosted the World Chess Olympiad since 1927. However, for the first time in history, India has the right to host the World Chess Olympiad. Chennai, the capital of the chess tournament, has also been selected. The tournament is scheduled to run from July 26 to August 8.
The match will be held at Mamallapuram. The International Chess Federation will announce the final date of the tournament on Friday night (tomorrow). Rs 100 crore is being spent for this competition. Tamil Nadu has made all arrangements to acquire the right to conduct the competition Chief MK Stalin and the state administration did it quickly. We thank them.
This time we expect more than 2,000 athletes from 200 countries to participate. An additional team from India will participate as they have the right to host the tournament. 3 teams will represent India in that category. The choice of players will be based on the rankings.
