Between the 20th and 26th of April, the Ceará Health Department (Sesa) carries out actions to promote World Vaccination Week, inspired by initiatives from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The program includes flu vaccination D-Day, opening live, two days of symposium on the importance of vaccines to protect people of all ages and a forum with regional immunization coordinators.

The activities disseminate information about the importance of vaccines to ensure protection against vaccine-preventable diseases (those that can be prevented with vaccination) and discuss immunization strategies, considering the characteristics of each health region in the state.

Sesa’s immunization coordinator, Ana Karine Borges, explains that the vaccine is the most effective measure to prevent various diseases. “Through it, it is possible to avoid hospitalizations, sequelae and even deaths. In Brazil, vaccines are available in public services free of charge, following the principles of the Unified Health System (SUS) of equity and universality,” she explains.

“It is worth highlighting that the vaccination of specific groups directly impacts the protection of the community, reducing the risk of disease transmission and the population’s state of vulnerability”, concludes Karine Borges.
