It was an excellent victory, but a terrible match for Inter, especially given their recent performances.
The team didn’t do anything until the 25th minute of the first half, no passes, no markings, no approaches, and luckily, Vitória is a terrible team.
Vitão’s header (I think) was the only play until the 30-35th minute; the team was disconnected and out of touch.
Roger used the 442 instead of his usual 4231 and brought Valencia’s AlanPa closer to the leaders. As a result, the team was left without a frame and Gabriel and Wesley closed in the center to open spaces on the sides; Valencia played centrally.
This favored Vitória’s marking, which canceled out the exits on the flanks, and when Inter tried to come out in the centre, there were few to pass and set up the ball. The mistake was corrected only after 35 minutes, when AlanPa came down to set up the game, but even then he was scored individually.
Roger should have moved Gabriel closer to the centre, placed Wesley on the right and left on the left for Valencia and Bernabei, making the midfielders arrive in the area when the wingers were used.
Maybe fear of the new defense has the team stuck, and the fear is justified. Vitória’s long aerial ball was not intercepted by the defense, who lost practically all the balls, and Vitória’s striker is not at all excellent. This is the worrying point of the team at the moment.
The goal came with a very modest move, with a nice turn from AlanPa and a good entry from Bruno Gomes, who conceded a childish penalty. I also thought AlanPa shot badly, but a converted penalty is hard to criticise.
The second half comes with the same form and format, and the goal comes when Valencia leaves the area, leaving the defense in line, and Wesley takes advantage of the speed and scores a beautiful goal.
The game that would have been calm became complicated with the aerial ball, with Clayton and Vitão failing, allowing the opponent to break the line between them. I always think that the ball crossed by the intermediary, between the small area and the penalty, is the goalkeeper’s ball, but Rochet did not come out and Vitória scored the goal.
Then Inter got scared. The marking didn’t work, Thiago Maia got tired and Fernando wasn’t able to keep the center; Vitória attacked from the right, taking advantage of Bruno Gomes’ lack of experience on the flank, and, given that the wingers played very wide, Gabriel was slow to score.
Even so, Inter have opportunities to launch on the counterattack, but they don’t take advantage of the long ball, even if the spaces were there. Wesley and Valencia, and also Bernabei, had an avenue on the left side, but there was no attention to the distribution of the game.
Vitória improved, but were scared with a single header, I think it was the fault of a slip by the defender.
It’s a shame that Gabriel’s beautiful play on the right, who made a perfect cross for Valencia in the second half, which he finished with plasticity, wasn’t a goal.
With the substitutions, Inter reinvigorated the midfield, started playing with a key player and rebalanced the game, even with Alario completely out of rhythm.
The goal was born from an excellent play and a painting by AlanPa in the small area, closing the match and guaranteeing the three points. Points also for the fans, who played together the whole time.
